The Samurai. In my opinion the Samurai were people to be honored so here is my essay.

Samurai were truly noble warriors. They were prepared to sacrifice everything for their lords. Ready to fight at the Shoguns every whim.  Yet not everything about them was violent as they are often portrayed. Some of them were great artists and poets. But who were they really?

The samurai were the military nobles of Ancient Feudal Japan. The samurai’s rich history began with Emperor Kummu in the Heian period [8^th and 9^th] who sought to expand his rule in Honshu. Unfortunately for him the soldiers were no match for the rebellious Emishi people so he relied on the regional clans to help him. These regional clans who were skilled in martial arts and other forms of combat helped the Emperor to defeat the Emishi. Later after the Emperor disbanded the army and the nobles began to seize power and started taking the farmers land. Through this process several of the “modern” samurai clans were formed.

The first samurai clans laid out the first initial rules for Bushido: The Way of The Warrior. However the idea of Bushido was not adopted till the early 18^th century, before that the samurai usually referred thmselves to the followers of “kyuba no michi,” or the “way of the bow and horse,” and did not have any exact rules.  As the regional clan’s power grew it became typical for the Emperor to be a relative of some of the people in the Fujiwara, Minamoto, or Taira clans. As the power of the samurai in economics and politics grew the Samurai began to have “clashes” with each other over power such as the Heiji Rebellion of 1160 between the Minamoto and the Taira. Later in 1180-1185 there was another war between the two clans which Minamoto no Yoritomo and his clan won. In 1192 he established himself as the Shogun or the Seii Taishogun.   In the Feudal period of Japan the Mongols attempted to invade Japan twice through the course of six years [1274-1281]. The first time the invaders were struck by several lightning storms and could not invade. The second time [1281] 140,000 Yuan troops were once again trying to invade illustrious Japan who was defended by a mere defense of 40,000 soldiers. This time they were struck by a great typhoon and more thunderstorms making it impossible to attack. The Japanese called this the divine wind.   

The Sengoku period which followed was a time of war, and bravery. During this period Oda Nobunga sought to conquer all of Japan. A fierce enemy to face who had innovative ideas in organization and military tactics. He died after his General   , Akechi Mitsuhide betrayed him . His successor was Ieyusu Tokugawa who in his period of rule reduced the importance of Samurai greatly. Most Samurai became bureaucrats or courtiers and Bushido was more of a formality than a way of life unlike the earlier periods.  

The Samurai social class was abolished during the Meji Era when Japan converted to a more modernized government.

                The Samurai had a vast culture that helped them to eventually develop into one of Ancient Japan’s most respected and educated classes. Being able to write was an important aspect of being a samurai because being the supposedly ”superior” class they were expected to be better educated then commoners. They also sometimes wrote poetry.

                                The Japanese Samurai “school of thought” was based on the Zen Buddhism and partially the teachings of Confucius and Shinto. Zen was important because it calmed your mind. Another important influence was Bushido: The Way of the Warrior. This “code” told Samurai how to protect their honor, be successful warriors etc…    Bushido was very confusing and hard to understand for in the case of 47 ronin* it was very difficult to make a decision as to whether they followed Bushido or were criminals.

                The Samurai utilized many weapons to win their battles. But their favorite weapon was the Katana. It was supposed to symbolize the Samurai’s soul. Usually worn with their katana was the wakizashi or their honor blade, together they were known dai-sho. Other weapons that the Samurai placed stress on were the yumi (longbow) even after guns were invented and, the in the 15th century, the yari (spear) also became a popular weapon for its long range and accuracy.

                As a result of being loyal to their lords and Shogun Samurai were given a number of special privileges which were later abolished during the Meji Era. One privilege was that samurai were allowed to kill any commoner for showing disrespect to the Samurai. Another privilege they received was that they were allowed to commit suicide [seppuku] albeit in an honorable way. They also were treated with more respect than the average person.

          The Samurai were honorable people. They were not violent barbarians. They were defenders of the Ancient Japan. They are influences of modern Japanese society. They were the retainers of their lords. They were the  Uruwashii ,Buke , Mononofu , Musha, Shi , and Tsuwamono. They were true Samurai.

  Uruwashii- cultured warrior

  Buke – A martial house

  Mononofu -An ancient term meaning a warrior.

  Musha – A shortened form of bugeisha , lit. martial art man.

  Shi – gentleman

  Ronin- Masterless Samurai

  Tsuwamono -An old name for a soldier popularized by Matsuo Bashō in his famous haiku.

   

*The 47 ronin was a tale of 47 ronin who avenged their master Lord Asono’s death by the Lord Kira Yoshinaka and were forced to commit seppuku for it.

1st Contest Entry!

Well, we have our first contest entry! It is by Gtracer, and about a puffle named Jelly.
Jelly, one of my six puffles is a very adventurous, and is a brave little blue puffle. Well it all started on Tuesday. I was getting ready for the big hockey match and forgot to lock the door. As I rushed away I saw Jelly crawling from a crack in between the door. I quickly rushed back and put Jelly on his bed and locked the door. But, as I was coming home from practice the door was slightly open and as I walked in I saw to my horror, Jelly was gone.
I frantically dialed the PSA to report my missing puffle. Being their top agent they dispatched a search party right away. As the agents approached I saw movement in the distance. I took off waddling fast as I could to see what it was. But it wasn’t Jelly, It was just another penguin wearing a cowboy hat. I asked if he had seen any blue puffles, He said he had a few at home but hadn’t seen any outside since his puffle wrangling days.
I returned home to see the search party sent by the PSA had split up and was searching a part of the forest that was nearby. I walked inside to look around to see if I could find anything. And of all things I could have found, I had found it. It was Jelly! He had been on the window sill the whole time! I ran out and told the search party I had found him.
They returned to HQ with the good news and I happily placed Jelly on his bed and said “Jelly…What will we ever do with you?” Jelly just looked at me with his usual face that said “Can we go outside?” So I strapped on his leash and we went out to Town. There seemed to be a lot of penguins with hockey sticks and hockey gear. Jelly pulled me to the Snow Forts and I saw the time. 5:01 PST! I was late! I quickly put on my hockey gear and ran to the Ice Rink. Jelly ran ahead of me and as I entered I saw a lot of other penguins. They were skating around the Rink practicing. I tied Jelly to one of the stands and waddled out onto the Rink. Just then the referee skated to the center of the rink. He blew his whistle and the game started. After about an hour it was over. We had won by one point. As Me and Jelly returned home a group of penguins approached us. They waved at Jelly and said “Whats up little guy!” I asked what they meant and they said “Didn’t you see him playing hockey? He’s your puffle isn’t he?”
The next day Jelly’s Pictures was all over Town. He had been the one who had scored the last goal! I knew whoever scored was too small for a penguin! Now I was owner of the “Skating Puffle”. It was the biggest adventure Jelly had ever been on and was the biggest adventure of all Puffle time.
That was a good story! Plus it was spell checked and everything so I never had trouble reading it, thanks Gtracer!
Plus, Jedimaster17 said she would post her report about Samurais, the Great Warriors of Japan this evening! This is turning out to be better than I thought!

And another thing: I am working on a document (similar to ones you might “analyze” in your American History Class, that are letters from the president to the people or the people to the president) and you will have to download it so it can’t be read as easy as if I simply posted it on this site. It will be in Microsoft Word format, so I hope most of you have that on your computer.

Tuesday!

I know some of you have parents who say “You can’t email strangers” even thought I’m not really a stranger to you because I post a little about my day in all of my posts, and we have those “comment-conversations” and I’m not a stalker, but if your parents don’t want you emailing “strangers”, that’s okay, you can leave you story/essay in a comment, or, if you are an admin, you can put it in a post!

Also, your story now officially doesn’t have to be a story, it can be an essay, a report, or something! But the same rules still apply. And I will “grade” it on how well-put-together it is, not on how exciting and a good story it is. Also not really, but kind of how correct the information is.

Remember, the reward for winning the contest is you get to start off the Sleet spy unit! And be leader, without an Andrew telling you what to do in it. I might tell you some things you can’t do, but that’s about it, like spy on allies.

Ideaman suggested we should have medics. This is a good idea. I will make a page about it, and whoever wants to be a medic, you can join! This way people might come here for free medical care, because we can provide it.

The Key

The key has been released, here is the link to the answers and stuff you should know!

Idaeman is right, lets stop letting other choose our fate and choose our own fate! So that’s why we’re joining CPUN, the club penguin United Nations! Maybe it will fix up our bad agreement with the nachos.

We should start a hockey team for entertainment. Tidle Fin, you first suggested this, so please form a Sleet Hockey Team! Maybe we can play against the RPF hockey team if we get enough people.

And I had another idea-if I used the major tags on this site, maybe we would get on the front page of WordPress.com! Hits are good.

Club Penguin hasn’t released the key yet, maybe they are working on some bugs or glitches with the key, or maybe they are just waiting until noon today. Keep checking back, I think it should be hidden by after school today.

Contest! (And Knights!)

Yeah, so the idea is somewhat from what the nachos are doing, what’s your point?
But this is a story contest! Not a movie contest like the nachos.

Here’s how this will work. Anyone who wants (Whether you are a part of us or not) can write a story about anything you want. Then, after you are done, send it to andrew575.support@gmail.com. I will post them on this site soon, and then I will decide which one is best! The winner gets to start our Spy Operation.
So what are you waiting for? You might be waiting for the rules, that means you are a good person!

1. Nothing inappropriate in your story
2. No inappropriate language
3. Don’t make it as long as Harry Potter, please. Just don’t make it as long as you can. Just as long as you need to write a good story.
4. Also, PLEASE spell check. I always do in my posts, and here’s why. Can you find the difference between these:
“The soljers r unvadung”
and…
“The soldiers are invading”
Seriously, please spell check it. I don’t want to try and figure out what that means, eventually I would be wrong on something.

Now… for the knighthood!
Anyone who wants to have a knighthood to either me or Ideaman (The leaders) comment here! A knight is a bodyguard, and in medieval times, the King or Queen’s right hand man. So comment here!

Rockhopper’s Key Hidden Tomorrow!

I’ll post the key location tomorrow, and some pictures of Rockhopper’s quarters!

Just wondering, does anyone here have another wordpress site? If you do I will let you be an admin on this site. Just leave the link and tell me you want to be an admin.

Now, we really should fix a problem. As we all know, the agreement Shadow2446 and I agreed to wasn’t the greatest deal, so we will attend the next ANTA meeting and let the other superpower leaders vote on what should happen to us. After we present some solutions, which could be:
1. Sleet is entirely freed from all Nacho Control
2. Sleet is taken away from us, and we must fight for our independence (*I don’t like that on either)
3. It stays as it is

On Monday, the key will be hidden to get into Rockhopper’s Quarters! I’ll post the key location on Monday.

I know a lot of you were not very happy with the agreement that me and Nacho Ambassador Shadow2446 agreed to. So I have a plan. Not war, but through ANTA. Here’s my idea-The ANTA superpower leaders can vote on what happens to us, after we present several options. Maybe if we have the superpowers watching what happens after the agreement, the nachos can’t really do anything about it, even if they wanted to. Because ACP and RPF would be forced into war against the nachos if they broke an ANTA agreement, and no offense to the nachos, but ACP & RPF vs. Nachos means munching on some chips…

Wow, I got hurt so bad today, I might not be at school on Monday. I was at a skatepark, and I had never tried grinding before, and I tried it. Let’s just say it was not very successful, seeing as I literally landed on my head. And now my neck is in a terrible condition, I’m lucky I didn’t break anything. Well not straight up, I was at a slope, my head hit the cement (I would’ve died if I wasn’t wearing my helmet) and then my elbow. I’m so sore I can’t really walk straight because my waist got hit hard after that. (Yes, not my best idea, but I kept skating after that, fell again because of my head injury and hit my hip really hard). So I’m not feeling the best today… IF YOU ARE A SKATER, WEAR YOUR HELMET. I’M GOOD AT SKATING, AND I WOULD’VE DIED IF I WASN’T WEARING MY HELMET. Seriously, you don’t have to wear kneepads or arm-pads, I don’t, but you really should wear a helmet.

News today (And Possible Invasion)

The party was really fun, we all had a great time! I forgot to take pictures though

Maybe we should invade another server, not to have citizens in, but control as a military outpost. And this time, I’ll look into it and make sure its not controlled by another army. Here is the Poll, if we should invade another server, to control as a military outpost. I don’t think controlling 2 servers would be very greedy, seeing as we won’t enforce laws, have citizens, or do anything in. JUST A FORT/MILITARY OUTPOST for our mercenaries.

Some ideas for IF we invade:
-We can use the Cove as a Naval Base.
-Launching Missiles from the Beacon, also as a surveillance area. So we will know right away if our fort is getting invaded.
-Giant Masses of artillery at the Iceberg, to shoot at enemy ships and planes.

Now, about who will be going to war if it happens…
-All Mercenaries are required to fight, Mercenaries, you are the only real army we have.
-Police, we recommend it that you come
-Citizens, we ask that you come, but you are not asked to.

New Stuff Today

Sorry for no post earlier, I was in class. Lie. I was at the mall. Lol, anyway, in history we’re studying the Cuban Missile Crisis and watching the movie “13 Days”. It’s really good, and not some old movie in black and white with terrible audio. It’s in color, a good movie (But only if you like spies, secret missions, amazing action scenes, and simply a good movie) and during the movie I had a rubber band and those “wedges” or whatever they are called at your school. (They look like a rolled-up paper thing in a “V” shape.) So I kept “scoping” (Another name at my school for shooting at someone else and hitting them with good aim) this one kind-of-nerdy-kind-of-not person in the face. (He really never liked me but before that he had no reason). This WAS a complete accident, but on the bus ride home I was trying to “scope” someone else and missed and hit the bus driver… It made her stop the bus and ask what happened, not fun. Don’t do stuff like that like I do lol.

Another quote we can use in a war if we are outnumbered:

We will have a court system, I’ll let Tidle Fin make the page for it and run everything. Apparently it was just voted “Yes” so Tidle Can decide if we want Parliament as jury or whatever.

So the whole Cold War thing with spies and stuff has got me hooked on this stuff. Maybe we could start a spy division and spy on people. Maybe the Nachos. I don’t know, SOMEONE!!! lol. I trust the nachos to hold their agreement, but maybe we should just see if they are. Comment if you think this is a good idea.

Edit:Mao Zedong was a communist leader and helped China come back together. He lead the Red Revolution [red was the good color]. The Cold Wwar was a war which wasn’t a war between the Democratic Nations and the Communist Nations. A lot of spy’s were employed to spy on each other and had devices built specifically for them. E.g. say a camera disguised as a matchbox etc..

Because I apparently never set the date for the ending of these votes, both will end tomorrow. It looks like both candidates will make it into Parliament.
Ok, maybe it should be “Drawing Board”, but whatever. I agree, what Shadow2446 and I came up with wasn’t a very good agreement. The one thing that we are all really unhappy about is us not being able to let other armies into Sleet. I have a solution, maybe we could loosen it to “We can’t let hostile armies into Sleet”. A hostile army would be an army that is totally 100% against the nachos. I’m asking Shadow2446 or Zippy500 or WHOEVER is a high rank in the nachos to loosen this up with us, you could leave a comment on this site or we could go back to a chatbox. (A comment would be easier)

Also, if you haven’t noticed, the New Mission 7, “Clockwork Repairs” is out on club penguin!!!
